NEW Youth Protection Training Requirements

NEW Youth Protection Training Requirements for ALL registered Scouters Before the Next Recharter

Youth Protection Training is required for all registered volunteers.

New leaders are required to take Youth Protection Training before they submit their application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins.

Youth Protection Training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection Training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.

Our May 1 Car Wash

Well Troop 61 had it's fundraising car wash or should I say fire truck wash!. The boys where willing to wash all in coming vehicles

Our older boys did a pretty good job leading the new boys and trying to organize when it got a little hectic. I know it's not easy being a leader.

Our new boys worked so hard and took direction well.

We are all proud of them for the work they did. You made Troop 61 proud! We are so happy you are a part of the Troop 61 family!

Thanks to all the parents who came to help monitor the boys and keep them safe, wash cars, take money, etc.

Winter Camping

Stay Warmer by Keeping COLDER:

Clean, clothing free of grime insulates best

Overheating. Avoid it . Clothes will stay drier & warmer

Layers, Rely on loose, light layers for the greatest range of adjustment

Dry, use protective layer to shiel clothing from external moisture

Examine Regulary, pay attention to the conditions of your clothing

Repair Quickly. take care of tears, brken fasteners, frayed edges and other damage as soon as you notice them. duct tape is ideal for temporary patches in the field.

December 18th to 19th camp out in Union Ct has been cancelled
On November 5, 6, & 7 we will be participating in this event. We'll be camping out. This will be an event to help the boys earn more merit badges
the weekend of October 16 & 17 we will be having our Holiday fest. We have invited the Webelos from Pack 61 to join us in our over night camp out. Also, the rest of pack 61 has been invited on sunday to join in our fest.
On Sept 28 We wil be having our Court of Honor for the boys who earn merit badges during summer camp
Sunday Sept 26th Car Wash at Sunset Ridge from 10 am to 2 pm

PRINCIPLES OF "LEAVE NO TRACE"

1. Plan ahead and prepare. -
Proper trip planning and preparation helps hikers and campers accomplish trip goals safely and enjoyably while minimizing damage to natural and cultural resources. Campers who plan ahead can avoid unexpected situations and minimize their impact by complying with area regulations such as observing limitations on group size.

2. Camp and travel on durable surfaces. -
Damage to land occurs when visitors trample vegetation or communities of organisms beyond recovery. The resulting barren areas develop into undesirable trails, campsites, and soil erosion.

3. Pack it in. Pack it out. -
This simple yet effective saying motivates backcountry visitors to take their trash home with them. It makes sense to carry out of the backcountry the extra materials taken there by your group or others. Minimize the need to pack out food scraps by carefully planning meals. Accept the challenge of packing out everything you bring.
4. Leave what you find. -

Allow others a sense of discovery: Leave rocks, plants, animals, archaeological artifacts, and other objects as you find them. It may be illegal to remove artifacts.

5. Minimize campfire use. -
Some people would not think of camping without a campfire. Yet the naturalness of many areas has been degraded by the overuse of fires and increasing demand for firewood.

6. Respect wildlife. -
Quick movements and loud noises are stressful to animals. Considerate campers observe wildlife from afar, give animals a wide berth, store food securely, and keep garbage and food scraps away from animals. Help keep wildlife wild.

7. Respect others. -
Thoughtful campers travel and camp in small groups, keep the noise down, select campsites away from other groups, always travel and camp quietly, wear clothing and use gear that blends with the environment, respect private property, leave gates (open or closed) as found. Be considerate of other campers and respect their privacy.
